The 22nd Annual Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival will be the premier event of the year in Downtown Mount Vernon. It encapsulates everything good about Daniel Decatur Emmett and the community’s musical heritage. It is the “flagship” marketing activity where Mount Vernon (particularly downtown) is “on display” to the world. Our previous Festivals have been tremendous successes with over 20,000 people attending annually. The Festival’s headliners have varied from The Lettermen to Paul Revere and the Raiders to the ever popular Jan & Dean. While at the Festival, the crowds have enjoyed events such as the fiddle contest, Civil War Era Ball, and Classic Car Show, as well as a number of artisans and crafters displaying their wares. At the 2008 Festival, we estimate that approximately 6,000 were in attendance at the Micky Dolenz of The Monkees concert on Saturday night.
This year’s Saturday night headliner is Sonny Geraci and the Outsiders. Other headliner entertainment will be: Thursday evening - Phil Dirt & the Dozers, Friday evening – our original Knox Idol. Friday will also feature the new KnoxSquares, in the tradition of Paul Lynde of Hollywood Squares fame.
