2011 Knox Idol Winners

Last night's Knox Idol competition brought out the crowd in support of their favorite youth and young adult vocalists. The eight contestants were selected by the three preliminary judges, Marcy Rinehart, Yvonne Sanson, and Matt Starr, from a group of twenty-three hopefuls who auditioned on July 22. For the Youth Category (Ages 14-18): Trey Caldwell, Corie Inverso, Lisa May, and Cassidy Noonen. For the Young Adult Category (Ages 19-29): Leann Berg, Veronica Mroczowski, Catherine Schermerhorn, and John Vonck.
The final competition was divided into two rounds, with the audience voting for their favorite after each. A panel of three judges, Marcy Rinehart, Yvonne Sanson, and Bruce Jacklin, provided constructive feedback and encouragement to each Finalist at the end of their performance. Joe Barone, the MC for the evening, kept the crowd energized throughout the competition and while the votes were being counted.
Two contestants from each age category moved on to Round 2, after which Corie Inverso and John Vonck were named the 2011 Knox Idol Champions. The Runners-Up, Cassidy Noonen and Veronica Mroczowski, also gave incredible performances. If you missed the competition, or if you enjoyed the evening's entertainment and would like to have a memento, professional DVDs created by I-Conn Productions are available for $15 dollars in the Official Festival Gift Shop, located at 105 South Main Street.
The Buckinghams perform tonight at 9:30 on the First-Knox Main Stage. Would you like to have a prime seat for the concert? Tickets for reserved seating are still available for $20 each. Tickets will be held in the Festival Office, located at 107 South Main Street, until 6:30, after which they will be moved to the tents beside the Main Stage. See you there!
Start Your Engines!
Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, enthusiasts young and old — The Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival cordially invites you to the 2011 Antique & Classic Car Show on Sunday, August 14th, sponsored by Donley Ford - Lincoln of Mount Vernon. Antique and classic cars and trucks from around the country will be proudly displayed from Noon to 4:00 p.m., with the beauty of historic downtown Mount Vernon as the backdrop. Each and every vehicle is truly a unique work of art.
The Show will be held around the Public Square, a portion of West High Street, Mulberry Street, Sandusky Street, and Vine Street from Gay to Mulberry Streets. This configuration will allow for many more vehicles to be showcased this year. The Classic Cars category is a juried event.
In addition to your traditional classic cars, antique cars returns for a second year as a special category for Pre-WWII original cars. "Original" refers to any antique vehicle that remains as it was for their appropriate era, though standard updates are acceptable. The Antique vehicles is not a juried event, but four trophies will be awarded in this special Pre-WWII category: a G.M. trophy, a Ford trophy, a Mopar trophy, and an "Other" trophy.
If engines and paint jobs weren't enough, there will also be a 50/50 raffle, and the first 100 registrants will receive a free event T-shirt and dash plaque. The entry fee is only $10, and will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on the Square.
