Banjo Contest
Saturday, August 9
12:30 on the First-Knox Main Stage

Contest information and rules:

  1. There will be two (2) age categories: age 17 & under and age 18 & over.
  2. Old-time (frailing/clawhammer), bluegrass and dixieland styles all accepted.  Please specify style on your registration.
  3. Contestants will be required to play two tunes of their choice.
  4. Contestants may have up to two (2) acoustic accompanists as long as the accompanist(s) DO NOT play the melody.
  5. No electrical instruments.
  6. Each contestant will have 5 minutes total to play.
  7. Contestants will be judged on the following:
         Rhythm and Timing – 40 points,
         Clarity of tune and Originality– 30 points,
         Difficulty and Master – 30 points
  8. Registration for the contest begins at 11:15 a.m.  Numbers will be drawn at 12:15 pm.
  9. No switching of numbers is allowed.  Contestants will be called to the stage by number only.  The judges will not see the contestants.  Please be tuned and ready to play when your number is called.
  10. In case of a tie, contestants will be asked to play one (1) tune of their choice with a 2 1/2 minute cut off time.
  11. The decision of the judges is final.
