Julie Chester – Unsung Hero of Knox County Award

At the core of every good volunteer is the ability to organize and delegate, and she has been an organizer from her early years.

After her graduation she worked at First Knox National in Fredericktown. She then took a break to raise her family. She returned to the bank and now works as a bank manager.

She loves people and is always ready and willing to help out when needed. She is a hard worker but also loves to have fun.

She has volunteered for years as a member of the Tomato Show Board of Directors and has served as president and vice president.

She has been in charge of the Little Miss Tomato Show contestants for several years and has a wonderful way with children. She makes sure each girl feels like a winner. She says "The hardest part of interviewing the girls is to find questions that can't be answered with a yes or no."

She has also volunteered her time to be in charge of the Little Miss Knox County at the Knox County Fair. She has donated many hours of community service through the First Knox National Bank.

She has donated her time to the Freedom Years through First Knox, escorting customers to and from the airport at all hours, day or night. She has donated her time to the Knox County Fair helping with livestock sales. She is a member of the Knox County Visitors Bureau.

She volunteered to take pictures of seniors at the Career Center working on projects and receiving awards. She spent hours and hours making a video/music disk of their senior year, and they received it for graduation.

She assisted the Teacher Academy by going as a chaperone and volunteering when the students presented an "Egypt Day" to the fourth grade students at a Columbus inner-city school. She helped with the teacher academy students and again spent hours and hours making a video/music disk on Egypt to use with the children. She will serve on the 2008-2009 Teacher Academy Advisory Board.

She has been an active member of the Knox County Convention & Visitors Bureau for the past 5 years; she is currently serving as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees.  She has been busy as a volunteer at many of the tourism related activities, including the Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival.

Julie Chester has become a very giving and successful volunteer!
